DEB PATTERSON ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION BID FOR STATE SENATE

January 5, 2022

SALEM - Today, Senator Deb Patterson (D, Salem) announced she will seek re-election for State Senate in District 10, which includes the communities of Salem, Monmouth, and Independence

“It is the honor of a lifetime to serve our community in the State Senate”, said Senator Patterson. “I campaigned on fighting for an Oregon that works for everyone, where no one has to choose between life-saving medication and paying their rent. As State Senator, I was proud to champion legislation that caps the price of critical medications and increases accountability for the cost of prescription drugs. Our work isn’t finished, and I hope to earn the support of this community once again.”

In her first term in office, Senator Patterson has focused her work on the rising cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, the growing housing and homelessness crisis, supporting local small businesses and investing in Oregon’s schools.

“I was honored to serve as Chair of the Senate Health Care Committee, especially in the wake of COVID-19,” Patterson said. “The work that the legislature did during this last session was critical to supporting Oregon’s recovery from the pandemic. And I look forward to continuing to do the essential work ahead of us to continue creating an Oregon that works for everyone.”

She successfully secured over $6.5 million for local homelessness and housing-related resources - including a homeless navigation center that serves those most in need, right here in our community. Senator Patterson also delivered almost $500,000 for local business grants in Senate District 10, supported a historic investment of $9.3 billion in Oregon’s K-12 schools (in addition to Student Success Act funding), $470 million in mental health services and $190 million for wildfire prevention and protection programs.

Senator Deb Patterson was elected to her first term in the Oregon Legislature in November, 2020. She serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health Care, and as a member of the Senate Housing and Development committee, the Senate Natural Resources and Wildfire Recovery committee, and the Senate Veterans and Emergency Preparedness committee. She has been endorsed by over a dozen local community leaders including Rep. Paul Evans, Rep. Chris Hoy, Former Rep. Brain Clem, Mayor Bennett of Salem, Mayor McArdle of Independence and Mayor Koontz of Monmouth in addition to multiple city councilors and school board members in the district. The primary election is May 17, 2022.
